Decline in the number of trademark applications
The number of national and international (Finland as designated country) trademark applications decreased for a second consecutive year. The number of design right applications remained at previous year’s levels.
As the number of applications decreased, we were able to make most of the trademark and design right registration decisions more quickly than what is set out in our service promises.

The work to develop online services continued
During the year, the PRH introduced a new public notice service for trademarks and design rights (Industrial Property Gazette service).
As in the previous years, we were actively involved in the projects of the European cooperation network, which is mostly funded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
The aim of the projects is to develop and maintain trademark and design right processing systems and online services. The pilot project to overhaul the trademark application service is one of these projects. The new service is expected to be introduced in 2023.
