The number of new associations is rising slightly
In 2024, the number of new associations continued to increase slightly. However, there was a slight decrease in the number of new foundations compared to the previous year.
The processing of start-up notifications for associations is rapid, and we register new associations in an average of two days. We received excellent feedback from our customers about fast registrations.
The Register of Associations contains the details of more than 100,000 associations and religious communities.
Registered new associations
There was a slight increase in the number of new associations. In 2024, we registered 2,059 new associations compared to 2,004 in 2023.

Notifications of changes and dissolutions submitted to the Register of Associations
There was a slight increase in the number of notifications of changes and dissolution. In 2024, they totalled 30,527 compared to 29,386 in 2023.

Registered new foundations
There was a slight decrease in the number of registered new foundations compared to the previous year. In 2024, a total of 23 new foundations were registered compared to 25 in 2023.

Fewer annual reports of foundations than in the previous year
There are about 2,700 registered foundations in Finland. The PRH is responsible for supervising that they comply with the Foundations Act and with their own rules. A foundation must submit an annual report to the Register of Foundations within six months of the end of the financial year.
In the past year, the majority of the foundations submitted their annual report within the deadline. However, the number of reminder letters we sent due to a missing annual report increased from the previous year.
Registered annual reports
The number of registered annual reports decreased. In 2024, we registered 2,559 annual reports. In 2023, the number registered was 2,679.

A survey mapped the challenges related to reporting
Based on the responses, the concept of related parties is well known in the foundations. Of the 252 foundations that responded to the survey, 46 per cent had already prepared guidelines for related parties, and 41 per cent stated that they intend to prepare the guidelines in the near future.
