Number of trademark applications stabilised

There was a slight decrease in the number of trademark applications from 2020 when the demand was particularly strong. The demand for national trademarks was, however, higher than in 2019.

As the number of applications stabilised, we were able to make most of the trademark registration decisions more quickly than what is set out in our service promises.

We also took part in the projects of the European cooperation network, which is mostly funded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The aim of the projects is to develop and maintain national trademark and design right processing systems and online services. Read more about developing online services in EUIPO projects.

We coordinate support for SMEs

The European Union has set up a support programme to help SMEs in the use of industrial property rights. In 2021, we participated in the implementation of the support programme by providing Finnish SMEs with information on the types of support available.

An SME can receive support for the fees charged for trademark and design right applications submitted nationally and at EU level. The programme also includes a pre-diagnostic service in which an SME can, assisted by a national agency, examine how it can protect its intangible assets. PRH coordinates the organisation of the pre-diagnostic service in Finland. Read more about the support programme for SMEsAvautuu uuteen välilehteen.
