Increase in the number of new associations

After several years of decline, there was an increase in the number of new associations in 2021. Last year, the number of new associations registered by the PRH was more than 400 higher than in 2020.

Overall, there was a slight increase in the number of notifications submitted to the Register of Associations.

We continued the development of the online service of the Register of Associations and submitting of the dissolution notification was introduced as a new feature. Most associations can now submit nearly all notifications to the Register of Associations online. The work to make the service more accessible also continued.

Registered new associations

The number of registered new associations increased: 2,155 new associations were registered in 2021. In 2020, the number was 1,689.

The number of notices of changes and dissolutions submitted to the Register of Associations increased: 27,412 notices in 2021 and 26,914 in 2020.

More foundation notifications than in 2020

The number of new foundations entered in the Register of Foundations remained at previous year’s levels. There was a slight increase in the number of applications for and notifications of foundations.

The number of registered annual reports also increased from 2020. Most of the foundations submitted their statutory annual reports within the deadline.

The PRH may impose a penalty payment on a foundation that fails to submit its annual report or does not complete it despite the requests to do so. In a highly positive development, the number of penalty payments decreased in 2021 compared with 2020.

Our goal is to gradually move to a system in which all financial statements of foundations are received in the digital iXBRL format. A great deal of development work has been carried out in cooperation with the Association of Finnish Foundations.

Registered new foundations

The number of registered new foundations decreased. In 2021, 28 new foundations were registered. In the previous year 2020, the number of new registered foundations was 30.

Registered annual reports

The number of registered annual reports increased: 2,723 annual reports were registered in 2021 and 2,682 in 2020.
