Trade Register

COVID-19 pandemic did not reduce the number of companies in the Trade Register

The COVID-19 pandemic did not stop the flow of notifications to the Trade Register and a significant increase in the number of notifications was recorded.

The number of start-up notifications to the Trade Register increased

The number of processed notifications of changes increased: 234,320 notifications of changes in 2020 and 212,022 notifications in 2019

Processed notifications of beneficial owners

Matters related to enterprise mortgages

There was a slight increase in the number of start-up notifications. A large number of notifications of beneficial owners was submitted before the deadline for filing them closed in summer. This was also the main factor boosting the number of notifications of changes. The number of financial statements submitted to the PRH increased substantially compared with 2019.

A new provider for the maintenance and development services of the Business Information System (BIS) was selected in a tendering process. We also implemented an interface service for BIS. Using the service, a private trader can also submit a start-up notification to the Trade Register in a service provided by a private company.

Active oversight to ensure that companies submit their financial statements

The Trade Register contains the details of more than 250,000 companies, which have a statutory obligation to submit their financial statements for each financial year.

In recent years, the PRH has taken active measures to ensure that companies comply with this obligation. We have sent letters to companies requesting them to submit their financial statements and, as a last resort measure, deregistered companies that have failed to submit their financial statements despite the requests.

The work has also produced results: there has been a substantial decrease in the number of deregistered companies. By the end of 2020, a total of 84% of all Finnish companies had submitted their financial statements to the Trade Register.

Financial statements submitted to the Trade Register

The number of financial statements submitted to the Trade Register increased: 226,581 financial statements in 2020 and 206,606 financial statements in 2019

Action plan for real-time economy to help SMEs in their daily routines

In September, Nordic ministers of economic affairs approved the action plan for a Nordic real-time economy prepared in the Nordic Smart Government (NSG) project.

According to the estimates made in the NSG project, Nordic SMEs would save EUR 500 million by the year 2025 by using electronic invoices and receipts and financial administration services.

In Finland, solutions based on the action plan will be jointly prepared by ministries, government agencies, organisations and companies.
